"So, all's well that ends well, eh, Mrs. Flatone," I said. "Nice to have the old girl back?"
Mrs. Flatone, nodded merrily and sat down to play a very heartfelt rendition of the old Beatles tune "Eight Days a Week."
Augustine ushered me to the side.
"You know, it's hard to believe that two little digits could make such a difference," she said. "I can't believe that I called a 1-800 toll-free number for Al's Piano Moving when I thought I was calling a 1-888 toll-free number for Pals Piano Tuning.
I'll have to make sure that when I dial a 1-888 toll-free number from now on, I really dial it. And vice versa."
"Yeah," I said, "unless a company decides to have two toll free numbers, the 800 and 888 equivalent. Say, while your mother is serenading us, feel like playing a little cards?"
"Sure," said Augustine. "Anything but crazy eights."
