cpcug logo The Capital PC User Group, Inc. is the third largest PC-based user group in the United States, with more than 5,500 members. Our headquarters is located in Rockville, Maryland. There are 27 special interest groups, including the AutoCad SIG, Beginners SIG, Delphi SIG, Electronic Publishing SIG, Internet SIG, Investment SIG, Multimedia SIG, OS/2 SIG, Paradox SIG, Reston SIG, Shareware SIG, Statistics SIG, Visual Basic SIG, Windows SIG, WordPerfect SIG, and more. Please view our 12-week calendar for the locations and times of our meetings. (You need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print this.)
clearspacerWe publish a monthly magazine, the Monitor. The July '96 issue of the Monitor is now available online in Adobe Acrobat format or viewing a page at a time (you also need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader v3.0 to read and print this.).

clearspacerWe operate a public, multinode bulletin board, the Members Information Exchange (MIX), on 301-738-9060. The MIX has about 80 local conferences and communicates through Hayes Optima 288 28,800 bps modems that were kindly donated by Hayes.
clearspacer Our monthly main meeting is held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Masur Auditorium, which is in building 10 at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. All of our meetings are free and open to the public.
clearspacer We have our own domain on the Internet, cpcug.org. For information about obtaining Unix accounts (either SLIP/PPP, Unix shell with TIA, or dynamic PPP) at really reasonable rates, call Millkern Communications, Inc., at 301-738-0097. Here's an up-to-date list of dialup numbers for phone access; same list in html 3.0 tables format.

The Internet Adapter (TIA) is here

If you want to run Windows GUI Internet clients (like Netscape) on your local computer, you have two options. First is a SLIP/PPP account, the more expensive of the two. We now have The Internet Adapter (TIA) available for you to use on our server, so if you have a cpcug.org Unix shell account, you can use the same Windows clients with this account at no extra charge. Don't sign up for a SLIP/PPP account unless you absolutely need your own IP address. You can download a starter collection of Windows clients that we have prepared to get you up and running in Windows. You need slipkit2.zip (2,505,127 bytes), which contains an installation file. The slipkit contains documentation (56,987 bytes) in Windows Write format on setting the applications up to work with Peter Tattam's Trumpet Winsock, which is included. Dynamite, and easy.

You can get more information about the CPCUG, including a membership application, from our gopher site.

bookmarks These are some of the bookmarks that we use on our teaching and demonstration computer at our Rockville headquarters. The list is exported from my Netscape bookmark list. We teach Internet classes for all levels of users, from those who don't know which end of the power cord to put into the wall to quasiexperts. We can teach you how to install and configure the Windows Internet clients contained in slipkit2.zip. For more information about our classes, see our training schedule. Of special interest to folks new to the web is Navigating the WWW with Netscape class.

If you want to learn about lots of Internet resources , check out this page by Neil Enns. The page was designed primarily for trainers, and it contains many links to important Internet facts and sources. Finally, if you want to find out more about the hypertext markup language (HTML), you can read the beginner's guide to HTML right here.
