Since I have a Trident 9400 card, I too needed 800x600x256.
After some playing around, I came up with a simple solution to
tricking OS/2 into using the Trident Install diskette from the
TRIWARP.ZIP files. Here is the solution which could be easier to do than
what I've read so far... (it could be easy for some people anyways)
- Unzip the TRIWARP.ZIP file into a temp directory
Copy those files (From the TROS2DRV directory) onto a floppy disk
that will be searched for by OS/2
- Do the Selectable Installation from the Desktop
- Select the Trident driver.
When OS/2 asks where to install from, select A:\ (Which should be the
default) then, when it asks to install the OS/2 driver disks, DONT.
Keep the disk with the copy of the TROS2DRV directory in the floppy.
- Start an OS/2 Shell (Full screen is good) or even a DOS shell.
- Use the LABEL program and create a volume on the driver floppy
called 'DISP 1' (There is a SPACE between DISP and 1)
Make sure you always use the TROS2DRV diskette
Switch back to the install program and proceed.
You essentially trick OS/2 into believing that it is using its
own Video Driver disk... (Remember, The Trident INSTALL copied
the required drivers from the original OS/2 disks.)
- When the Install programs asks to install disk 2, simply return
to the OS/2 or DOS shell and rename the diskette as 'DISP 2'
(Without the quotes!!!)
Exit from the OS/DOS shell and proceed with the install.
Case closed!
