System hangs with Adaptec 2740/2742 controller with cdrom attached

DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS

    Attempting to access a CDROM attached to an Adaptec 2740/2742
    scsi controller causes trap or system hang.

SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION

    Disable tagged queing for the AIC7770.ADD driver.

DETAILS OF RESOLUTION

    1. Edit the OS2 config.sys file.

    2. Change the line

       BASEDEV=AIC7770.ADD

                  to

       BASEDEV=AIC7770.ADD /A:0 /TAG:1

    3. Shut down system and then reboot for change to take effect.
