Using Jumbo Colorado Tape Drives with OS/2

Last Updated: 6th May, 1995

Symptoms

I've tried to use my 250meg Colorado with 'Tape' the program that come
with it and i get 'Drive Comunication Failure'.. Under dos, it work #1 no
   problem..

                                            from a recent USENET article

Hardware

250MB Jumbo Colorado Tape Drive

Problem

The software supplied with the tape drive does not run correctly under OS/2.

Fix

Get IBM DualStor for OS/2 from Indelible Blue.

It's about US$ 45 and it will support your Jumbo 250. You don't want to use the DOS TAPE program which shipped with your drive as it is OS/2 unaware - it won't backup the EA files; and, could really screw things up on restores. It is possible to use special utilities to backup and restore the EA files under DOS; but, it isn't worth it with DualStor being so cheap and reliable.

HP ( owner of Colorado Memory Systems ) is shipping a very nice OS/2 version of their software for the Trakker and Jumbo drives. I have personally used this with 2.11 full pack, Warp for Windows and Warp full pack with delightful results.
