Licensing terms

Copyright (c) 1997 @Computerworld. All rights reserved. Reproduction in whole or in part in any form or medium without express written permission of @Computerworld is prohibited. Computerworld and @Computerworld and the respective logos are trademarks of Computerworld, Inc.

Computerworld provides access and distribution rights for its content on a contracted basis, provided that you notify us before using our content. We encourage links to our site, provided that you follow our guidelines.

All requests for licensing, reprints, and other usage of material on @Computerworld should be addressed to permissions@cw.com. We will review your request, and provide you with an approval or rejection as soon as we have evaluated the request. We will attempt to approve or disapprove within 24 hours of each request.

From time to time, standard procedures will be created for certain kinds of content transactions. Requests that fall into these categories will be handled faster, provided they are consistent with our terms. The current standardized licensing terms we have in force are:

Simple Permissions: You wish to reference an article on @Computerworld from your Web site. If you are the author of the @Computerworld article, you may link to it immediately, provided that you send in a request to permissions@cw.com and provide us with the URL on your site that references our site. If you move that location, you should let us know. You may not copy the article to your Web site for any reason whatsoever.

If you are not the author of the article on @Computerworld, you must request the right to reference the article in advance through permissions@cw.com. We will need to know how you will refer to the article on your site, the URL, and any text that you use to describe the contents of the article. References and links that include only the headline will receive immediate approval. References and links that are connected with custom written abstracts or lead-ins to the article will take longer.

Intranet Permissions: If you are a company mentioned in the article, you may link to our Web site from your Intranet (not from any customer-accessible Internet Web sites, or Extranet Web sites). You may provide the headline of the article, but you may not extract quotes, nor may you copy the article to your site. Computerworld maintains the highest levels of Editorial Integrity, and as such, we cannot allow any modification to the headline, the story, or illustrations, nor may we allow extraction of key phrases that are to the benefit of the company.

Internet and Extranet Permissions: For those companies that wish to provide links from their customer-accessible Internet and Extranet sites to content on the @Computerworld site, they may do so provided they have filed with permissions@cw.com, and we have approved of the request. In no case may content be copied off of @Computerworld and placed on the customer site -- only URL links will be allowed. We must approve any wording in lead-ins and abstracts that may be used in the referencing page. In most cases, approval for use on Internet and Extranet sites will only be granted to companies that have received special mention in Computerworld publications.

Academic Permissions: If you are an academic institution, or a teacher in an accredited primary, secondary, college, or post-graduate institution, and you wish to include a reference to a Computerworld article in any publication, book, or educational material written for resale, you must request permission to use our content. Normally this permission is granted immediately. However, any electronic products (CD-ROM, DVD, Web, etc.) must include a reference to the URL on the @Computerworld site within the text of any articles. This permission is separate from any permissions that may be granted for printed publications.

Reprints: Computerworld resells print reprints through Reprints Services. Contact Michelle Olk at (800) 217-7874 for a price quote. Electronic reprints include the rights to reference and/or copy our content on your Internet or Extranet Web site. Prices will be quoted on a custom basis, and will be based on a limited time frame.

Content Licensing: If you are a news distribution site, or a content aggregator, we will license our content to you provided that you follow generally accepted business principles in tracking usage, achieve significant readership, and provide service to readers of our content. We can provide our printed content today, and are willing to provide linkage to our electronic content in the future.

Corporate News feeds: For those companies that are looking for a corporate news feed for their Intranet or Extranet site, we are able to provide a number of ways that you can link to our site. We will evaluate your requests on a case by case basis, and can work with other IDG publications to provide you with a wide range of content choices. Please send in your request to permissions@cw.com for a custom quote.
