It was a product (protocol) that compressed TCP connections for WANs. It used one port to send the compressed TCP connection data through; the other was used for management of CompressNET (to obtain statistics and also specify what should and should not be compressed). I do have some information on the protocol (as provided to IANA a long time ago) but I wasn't able to dig it up with my quick search. This was very high level information; not a protocol specification. If someone is interested, they can just get in touch with me. So, you can leave the pointer to me.
