DGen is a great genesis emulator that is very promising. It has average sound, and runs well on a P2-233 and higher. The compatibility rate is excellent, and it's increasing with each new version. DGen is now good enough to compete wi th KGen98 and Genecyst in the area of compatibility. It also looks like our best hope for the future of Genesis emulation. This is also the only emulator that has interlace support (run sonic 2 split screen)! It also supports logging of .GYM files with or without DAC logging.

This version has no sound. It's for people with P166s and slower computers who want to run DGEN.

This is the freely available source code.

Genecyst Download x.xx 8/19/98 DOS Genecyst is currently the fastest genesis emulator out there. It has great sound, real-time saving and loading options, a fast 68000 core, and a solid Z80 engine. This emulator is all you could ask for and more! The sound emulation is so close to the actual Genesis, you will be amazed. It even has raster effects, and every sound channel is emulated, including stereo sound! It's either this or KGen98. They're both awesome.

Generator32 Download .12 02/04/00 Windows This emulator is currently very early in development and runs VERY few games. Since it came with no readme, this page would be a good place to check out.

This is a fairly new emulator and runs 60% of ROMS available. It doesn't have sound yet, and has everything that a standard emulator has, with the exception of the ROM running. Check it out.

This is the Windows version of Gens.

DOS This emulator is coded in 32 bit assembly, and it is almost as good as genecyst. It has Raster Effects and H-interrupts implemented now. The sound is digitally emulated, producing quality sound and PSG sound is emulated too. It is alm ost as fast as genecyst with Vsync off. It also has a great GUI and real time saving in both KGen and Genecyst save format.

KGen98 is basically a total rewrite of KGen. There are many more features such as Game Genie support, VDP rewrites, an improved GUI, and more! Download it and give it a try; you won't regret it. It's either this or Genecyst. They're b oth awesome.

Megadrive Download 0.5 version 2 1/7/94 DOS Discontinued due to a hard drive crash, this emulator is capable of playing Sonic the hedgheog very slowly with no sound and many glitches, and it can do very little else. This isn't worth the download.
Megasis Download 0.04 6/5/99 Win9X Megasis is a great Genesis emulator, however the speed leaves something to be desired. It features proper emulation of certain games that other emulators may fall short on (e.g. Warsong). It also has partial sound emulation. If you ha ve a really fast computer, you might want to give it a try.
st0rm Download

Source

1.0 Beta 3/18/99 DOS st0rm is a primitive emulator that has a compatibility rate of less than 50%. There is no sound, and it's very slow.

The source is now available, since the project is basically been discontinued.

VGEN Download 0.14 11/26/98 DOS Virtual Genesis, or VGEN for short, is a decent Genesis emulator. It has both the PSG and YM2612 emulated, so it has pretty good sound support. It can run a large number of games, but not as many as Genecyst or KGEN. Some games are ver y glitched. This is also the first emulator with preliminary Sega CD support. You'll need one of the Sega CD BIOS images to test it out. It can only show the bootup screen currently.
