ESNES Download 0.14a 8/5/97 DOS Lord ESNES and Ishmair have made a fast Snes emulator. It has been rewritten in assembly and with sound support, thanks to Ishmair's efforts. This emulator is faster than NLKSNES with vesa2 enabled and SPC emulation disabled, and is also faster than SNES '9X. *DISCONTINUED* (Due to NLKE)
NLKE Download 0.03b 12/22/98 DOS This emulator is the biproduct of 3 people: Miguel Angel (of NLKSNES), Lord Esnes and Ishmair (of the ESNES team). ESNES and NLKSNES have joined forces to produce:NLKE! This emulator has all the features of ESNES along with the speed of NLKSNES. (Yes, there's sound). Transparencies are also available, although unoptimized, and thus rather slow. There's also a simple GUI as well. ESNES and NLKSNES have been discontinued since they have been merged into NLKE.
NLKSNES Download 0.15(d) 9/16/97 DOS This emulator was one of the fastest snes emulators there was, and even features has Mode7. *DISCONTINUED* (Due to NLKE)

0.16f 9/19/98 DOS This emulator can play some commercial games, and also has Mode7 scaling effects, along with HiRom support, sound, and more. It is written in a mix of C, C++ and assembly. Most emulation routines are done in assembly. It's quite slow, so brace yourself. *DISCONTINUED*
SNEmul Download 0.85b 10/25/98 DOS This emulator has improved much since its first release. It runs at a decent speed, and has very good sound emulation (inlcuding ADSR/GAIN). It also has a very nice and easily configurable GUI. Extra features include a mod ripper, which is a neat feature, graphical visualization, a debugger, and more. It supports transparency effects in 16 bit mode, and it doesn't require VESA2 support, although it is recommended. It's worth the download.

0.340 6/23/98 DOS This is one of the newest SNES emulators. It's CPU core is written in assembly, making the emulator pretty fast (almost as fast as Snes9x currently). It has one of the best designed GUIs I've ever seen, and is packed with features such as real time saving/loading, game genie support, and more! Currently, there is no sound support, transparency effects, or Mode7, but this should change in the future. The source code has now been released, and should be considered a great example to look at and play around with.

DOS and Win95 Snes9x's cpu is written in assembly, and it's graphics engine and SPC700 engine have been highly optimized in this version, as well as a GUI to go with it. It supports Modes 0-7, 2 joysticks, transparencies, preliminary Super FX support and has real time save/loading. With its speed boost since 0.20, this is now one of the best SNES emulators around, and actually is the most compatible. It's finally been resumed after over half a year of no releases.

Version 1.16 is an official release of snes9x. This version also supports netplay, but it crashes if you are using Scitech Display Doctor, have fun...

This is the Windows 95 port, It's the most recent stable version of Snes9x. Requires DirectX 2.0 and higher.

This is a beta release of Snes9x for Windows. It features transparency effects and other things not present in the 0.24 version of Snes9x, but it is not as stable as 0.24 and has many bugs, Use this version at your own risk.

The source code. Not much else to say.

6/10/96 Win95 and DirectX I don't know anything about this emulator, except that it's in japanese, it's crippleware, it has no sound, and is very unstable. Don't waste your time with this one.

7/31/98 DOS TheSE, which stands for The SNES Emulator, is a new emulator from the same team which created the now dead USNES, a very primitive SNES emulator. This emulator is currently at the level of SNEeSe, and is actually a little faster. It does have sopund output although very buggy. This Emulator as of July 31st 1998 has been discontinued. We here at ZD wish the TheSE team the best of luck
VSMC Download 9702d 10/21/96 DOS This emulator is useless. It is one of the oldest remaining files on Zophar's Domain. It is here to remind you of what SNES emulation used to be like. Download at your own risk (and eyes).

DOS This is the fastest SNES emulator in existance. It features all SNES screen modes, as well as add/sub transparencies in 16 bit graphics mode (VESA2 support is required), mosaic effects, Super FX emulation (Star Fox, etc), DSP1 emulation (Mario Kart, etc), real time saving, and a really great GUI which lets you configure the emulator to your heart's content. It has *excellent* sound, and it will really blow you away! It also supports the snes mouse, and has a slew of other options as well, including movie recording and modem to modem netplay!. zsKnight, _Demo_ and Pharos have certainly outdone themselves. One final note: this is the only SNES emulator that can play Super Mario RPG. This is the SNES emulator of choice!

This is the 100% assembly version of ZSNES. Only use this version if you are having sound problems, since this version does not have IPX support, nor does it have DSP1 support for games such as Super Mario Kart.
