Q&A's newly elected Chair...Paul Louey

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have voted to elect me as Chair for Queer and Asian's 1997 calendar year. It is my sincere hope that my efforts this year will prove that you have made the right choice.

As outlined in my personal election statement you've received earlier, it is my primary objective to see that the needs of Q & A are met and following that that a recruitment of new members and the nurturing of new leaders be the next crucial step. I would like to add to that a desire to assist Q & A become a well respected voice in the Gay/Bi/Transgendered community and perhaps take a more active role in contributing to the community-at-large.

I have enjoyed thoroughly being staff for the last two years and will continue my staff duties uninterrupted in addition to being Chair. In this issue of Mochi Balls you will find my narrative on the recent "Queer of the Ox" event. Its been a great pleasure hosting the event. And for those of you who attended I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

As former chair-extraordinaire Thom Gamble passes on the torch to me today, on behalf of Q & A, I would like to thank him for his dedicated leadership in his previous year of chairmanship. He has indeed been an inspiration to me. I am most glad to know that I would be working with Thom at least till October. And we would sorely miss him when he leaves Seattle.

I wish Thom the best of luck in his new endeavors. For those of you who are now stuck with me, I invite you to take a pro-active role in building a better, more inclusive Q & A. Come to talk or yell at me. My doors are always open at my POCAAN office (322-7061) and would welcome any comments and suggestions. Together we can only make Queer and Asian better.

Again, thank you for electing me as Chair.
