Buchanan Routs "Stop Buchanan" Effort, Gains in Five States
VIENNA, VA - Pat Buchanan's bid for the Reform Party nomination
received a terrific boost this weekend, winning the majority of the
delegates at Reform Party conventions in Iowa, Kansas, Rhode Island,
Idaho and, most significantly, rolling back and routing an anti-Buchanan
initiative in California.
At the convention in Los Angeles, a disgruntled faction of the Reform
Party's Old Guard, pursuing a "rule or ruin" philosophy, had worked out a
plan to keep Buchanan off the California presidential ballot even if he had
received the party's nomination. To this end, they managed to prevent
many Buchanan delegates, elected in the Reform Party primaries in
March, from being seated at the state convention, The "rule or ruin"
faction was confident of victory.
But after Buchanan's rousing speech to the delegates on Saturday, and
a persuasive floor effort by Buchanan campaign aides, the convention
turned back the "rule or ruin" faction, killing by voice vote an anti-
Buchanan resolution. Said campaign manager Bay Buchanan: "This was
a major victory.
We showed we could work with all the groups of the Reform Party and
prevail - even after our elected delegates were shut out of the convention.
We're moving forward rapidly, and by August we'll have a united Reform
Party ready to give the American public a clear alternative to the Beltway
parties in November."

STATE CONVENTION
Greetings, Brigade! If you haven't yet heard the BIG NEWS - Buchanan
forces came out victorious over the weekend at the CA Reform Party
State Convention!
On Saturday the convention failed to seat many Buchanan delegates
who ran in the March, 2000 Primary. Nevertheless, the seated delegates
split more or less evenly between the pro-Buchanan forces and the 'other'
side.
But on Sunday, Buchanan supporters, and other Reform Party members,
overwhelmingly defeated an attempt by "old guard" Reformers to
impose certain rules regarding Buchanan's nomination or else they would
disaffiliate the CA Reform Party from the national Reform Party thereby
denying the likely Party nominee ballot access in California.
Pat was truly energized by the tremendous reception he received from
the more than 400 delegates and guests packed into the hall. He was in
great form and his speech was terrific garnering ovations and shouts of
"GO PAT GO " throughout.
At the Convention I saw many of you who have been 'telephone buddies'
up 'til now. Great meeting so many CA Brigade members! We've still got
lots of work ahead of us - the ballot process in July and the National
Convention in August , so we will need to keep in touch! Thanks for all
your help! GO PAT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Del: Yes you shall. The convention was great, sometimes
discouraging and mostly encouraging. Almost lost my tonsils out-
shouting the John Hagelin gang. Pat did a beautiful job pulling us
together. They wasted so much time haggling over silly stuff. There is
obviously much to be done and many folks need to be won out of the
past and into the future. I was surprised at the Buchanan support from
the delegates, about 2 to 1 for him. My first time into something like
this but enjoyed it immensely. Though through technicalities I could not
be seated, I added my two cents with noise and behind the scene
questioning.
I'll leave the details to Tom Lowy our chapter chairman. We have an
exceptional credit to our party and the Buchanan campaign with Thomas
Lowy. I was extremely impressed with his ability to talk, his diplomacy,
friendliness, you name it he's got it. Right up there with Pat. Thank you
people for the opportunity. I filmed quite a bit of the proceedings with my
Video camera, so will get some copies to you. John Behl Zee

The one and only immigration control activist on the national level,
Patrick J. Buchanan, won in the California Convention over the weekend.
Congratulations and let's hope that the remaining Reform Party members
throughout the country who are afraid to tackle social sovereignty issue
because it might offend some people, will climb on board. Read all
about it in the NY Times, below.

Re: Pat Buchanan and the Reform Party
I've been reading of various people in the California Reform Party saying
that they want to split off from the national party because of Pat
Buchanan.
I think that this would be a major mistake and would help ruin our only
real chance of building a party as a good alternative to the other two.
I understand the arguments of those who want to split off, but I think their
fear of Buchanan is misplaced. As one who lived in the Haight-Ashbury;
near Harvard Square; near Georgetown; near Greenwich Village and who
has been involved in various counter-culture lifestyles (in fact, one of my
short stories is on the Haight-Ashbury Free Press website), I have no
fear that Buchanan wants to impinge on my lifestyle.
One of my columns "beatniks with pitchforks" even addresses the fact
that Buchanan is bringing in to the party what, for lack of a better term,
might be called the bohemian right/left, along with the little people who
realize that the big bucks elites are simply passing political power back
and forth among their fraternity brothers. There is no difference whether
Alpha Beta Republicans or their fraternity brothers Alpha Beta
Democrats win all the seats of power. The people are still left out in the
cold.
It's time to change that, and Buchanan and the Reform Party, if they
understand the long view of history and engage in some real party
building, have a chance to bring power back to the people.

Citizen Patriot Paul Hannosh reporting in from the fantastic Reform Party
Convention this weekend. We lost one vote to open up the convention to
recently elected county council member but we elected a friendly
chairman and two more Buchanan delegates to the National convention.
Pat got a rousing reception from the rank and file and I was able to ask
him a question regarding education from the convention floor. We also
soundly trounced the Mangia agents of division and self destruction when
they tried to hamstring Pat Buchanan. Way to go Brigade!!! May God
bless and speed Pat on his way to the White House!
