I don't know if 1,800 jobs seems like many jobs to some people, but added
to the on-going layoffs and downsizings which are occurring at a regular
clip, I found this article somewhat significant. To bring these reports
into reality and get the true impact, I ask people to visualize almost
2,000 people standing on their town sidewalks without anything to do....no
job to go to each morning. Statistics can be very cold and remote until
you make people "get the real picture" in their brains. I think this
company is USA based in Fla from what my research tells me....however,
these companies that remain in the US may still be out-sourcing some work
offshore and we wouldn't even know it. This is the trend in the 90s.
I wish there was a Matt Drudge of USA Economy.....someone to report the
real dirt on a regular basis and dish it out to the American people.

(UPI Focus) - AutoNation cuts 1,800 jobs
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla - AutoNation, the nation's
largest car retailer, said Monday it will lay off 1,800 workers and
close its used car megastores in order to concentrate on new car sales.
The company said 23 megastores would be closed, while six others
would be replaced with new vehicle franchises.
AutoNation said costs related to the closings, restructurings and
previously announced job cuts will cost the company between $430 and
$490 million during the fourth quarter...
"Our focus now is on improving our operating margins, [improving
operating margins now that will help increase profits on Wall Street!] and on
creating a unique and branded customer experience in our new vehicle
franchises, which are now AutoNation's sole business focus," Jackson
said...
