Gays & Lesbians in African Studies (GLAS) is an ASA sponsored organization that was founded in 1994 at the Toronto ASA meeting. GLAS has its mission to:
A.Share information, contacts, and network on homosexually-related research and concerns in the Africa region.
B.Encourage and support our gay, lesbian, and bisexual colleagues in the field of African studies.
C.Encourage and support research and advocacy on homosexually-related concerns in the Africa region.
D.Raise the awareness of others of the relevance and need for homosexually-related research in African studies.
GLAS Electronic Mailing List/Roundtable
GLAS has established an Electronic Mailing List/Roundtable in order for GLAS members and affiliates to communicate and interact. GLAS is eager to see the list become a forum for discussing issues related to homosexual, bisexual, gay, lesbian, and other same-sex arrangements in Africa; for exchanging information, supporting research,
and building resources on these issues; general networking; and for communicating any other information relevant to GLAS members and affiliates.
