- 1966 - Dirt Band forms in California
- 1967 - 1st record deal - 1st LP Buy For Me the Rain goes Top 40.
- 1968 - filmed Paint Your Wagon with Clint Eastwood.
- 1969-73 tour Japan, "Mr Bojangles" goes Top 10 pop.
- 1977 First American group to tour Russia.
- 1978-79 appear on Saturday Night Live! and are the backing music for Steve Martins's
"King Tut" video and on the Saturday Night Live performance
- 1983-86 "Long Hard Road" is the group's first Number One Song. Play at the
1984 Olympic Games and FarmAid.
- 1987-88 Tour Europe, three Top 10, one Number One song.
- 1989 - second tour of the Soviet Union
- 1989-90 Tour Canada, Europe, and Japan; win 3 Grammys and a CMA Award
- 1990 - Will the Circle Be Unbroken II certified Gold (sold 500,000+)
- 1992 - The Aspen Music School starts the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band scholarship, the first
to be named for a popular-music group
- 1996 - The band celebrates it's 30th year of making music
