SyShield
Firewall Software Protects Computer Users Against Internal
or External Hacker Tampering
SyShield
1.1 Reduces Risk of Unauthorized Access for "Always on" Technologies
Such as DSL, Cable Modems and T1
Fremont, Calif., Sept. 14, 1999 -- Sybergen
Networks, a leading provider of secure Internet access solutions
for small businesses, today announced SyShield 1.1 desktop
firewall software for small businesses, telecommuters and
remote/branch offices. SyShield helps protect important computer
data from theft, corruption, and damage and prevents work
interruptions due to unauthorized intrusion from Trojan Horse
hacker tools, such as Back Orifice.
SyShield provides an easy-to-use, cost effective security
software solution that reduces the risk of Trojan Horse hacker
tools wreaking havoc on a computer and/or LAN. SyShield prevents
communication between the hacker and the hacker tool, rendering
the hacker helpless. Desktop firewall software such as SyShield
is essential for users that have always-on Internet access
technology, such as cable modems and DSL; mobile users/telecommuters/branch
offices with a laptop or PC that remotely access a corporate
network via the Internet; or business users that want to protect
valuable corporate data from internal tampering when they
access a network from outside the firewall.
"Most companies have a corporate firewall to protect against
external tampering, and anti-virus software to prevent security
breaches found in emails and files. But companies often overlook
the weak link in their networks-desktop security-for users
that access the network from outside the corporate firewall,"
said Chris Guo, founder and president, Sybergen Networks.
"SyShield is an ideal tool for companies that want to protect
the integrity of their networks against the security holes
caused when mobile users, telecommuters and branch/remote
offices use the Internet to access the network. In addition,
SyShield can be installed on internal computers to protect
sensitive corporate data from internal hacking. SyShield is
a simple solution that helps businesses alleviate their growing
concerns about hackers unexpectedly corrupting their LANs."
Running as a service in the background, SyShield unobtrusively
monitors the computers' activity all the time, whether it
is part of a corporate LAN or directly connected to the public
Internet.
SyShield
is an ideal solution for:
- Mobile
workers/telecommuters who are traveling or working from
home and who are outside a corporate network and connect
to the Internet directly.
- Small
businesses, branch offices and remote offices wanting to
protect all nodes of a corporate network.
- Users
of "always on" Internet access technology, such as cable
or DSL modems, that require an extra level of security to
prevent a hacker from unwelcome intrusion.
- Internal
departments with confidential data that must be protected
from unauthorized internal users.
SyShield
offers the following features:
- User-configurable
security levels: From Ultra-High to Disabled, SyShield's
five security levels enable users to select the security
policy that best meets their needs. SyShield blocks the
ports based on the security level and can be easily changed
as needed.
- Detailed
analysis: Allows or denies every incoming Internet
packet based on security level.
- Immediate
action: Upon detecting any intrusion attempt, SyShield
closes the Internet connection.
- Historical
Log: Records all Internet access events, including
connections, port activity and source/destination IP addresses
and ports. Traffic logs are useful for self-auditing.
- High
performance: Reacts faster than other application-level
firewalls because it works at the packet level.
- Proven
technology: Based on Sybergen Networks' popular
SyGate(r) Internet access sharing software, which includes
a group firewall.
- Compatibility:
Works with many popular Internet applications and protocols.
Runs on Microsoft Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0 and is compatible
with Windows 2000 (release candidate version).
