Sygate® Technologies Company News

Sybergen Networks Targets Mobile and Distributed Networking Environments with New Internet and Security Software Product Lines

Industry Veterans Join Team to Drive Expansion of Company Offerings

Fremont, CALIF.-- Oct. 18, 1999 -- Sybergen Networks, a leading provider of secure Internet access management solutions, today announced plans to expand its business strategy and offer flexible, high-performance Internet access and security software products targeted at businesses with small- to medium-sized networks, such as small businesses, enterprise satellite offices, telecommuters and the mobile workforce.

Joining the company is a seasoned executive management team, with experience from Novell, Cornerstone, Kiva, Netscape, Trend Micro, Cinco Networks, Sybase, Informix and other leading software and security vendors. The team of industry veterans will guide Sybergen in developing and marketing Internet access and security solutions that help businesses to incorporate the Internet into their daily operations. Sybergen partners with resellers to market and support its software.

Sybergen’s first product, SyGate® 1.0 Internet access sharing software, remains a "stealth" favorite. More than 100,000 licenses have been purchased worldwide and more than 800 resellers worldwide have registered the software. Sybergen’s latest product, SyAccess™, builds on the success of SyGate by providing an integrated package of secure Internet access and performance management features to help small and highly distributed enterprises to maximize the efficiency of their Internet access. Completing the Sybergen product line is SyShield, security software that protects PCs and servers from Trojan Horse hacker tampering.

"The success of SyGate has shown that secure Internet access is an area of great interest to both home and business users," said Chris Guo, founder and president, Sybergen Networks. "We intend to build on our expertise and continue our expansion into new markets with products that will help businesses to access the Internet both securely and cost-effectively. Our plans are to introduce a comprehensive line of products that are robust, but easy to install and use in environments with limited IT support."

Sybergen’s security products provide comprehensive protection from unwelcome Internet intruders, including integrated firewalls for small- to medium-sized networks and satellite offices and personal firewalls for mobile and telecommuter systems. Its Internet access products help telecommuters, small businesses and enterprise satellite offices to add affordable shared Internet access that can improve performance as usage increases, without additional hardware or software reinvestment.

"Sybergen’s products address a rapidly expanding market sector—shared Internet access and security--that is undergoing phenomenal growth as more small- to medium-sized businesses use the Internet for critical communications," said Keng Lim, chairman, Sybergen Networks. "With its new management team and comprehensive product line, Sybergen is poised to become a market leader in the secure Internet access sharing market."

New Sybergen Team

The executive management team includes:

  • Chris Guo, founder and president. Guo has more than 12 years of experience in Windows networking and cryptography. Prior to founding Sybergen, he was a senior staff engineer at National Semiconductor and a software development consultant to a broad cross-section of the leading data networking companies in Silicon Valley, including Cinco Networks (acquired by Network General in 1997 and later merged with Network Associates), Hybrid Networks, Litton Data Systems and Trend Micro Systems.
  • Shelley Dougery Goldberg, vice president, marketing. Previously, Goldberg directed the marketing department for Novell’s network management division, including launching and supporting key products for enterprise global network operation centers and small businesses remotely serviced by resellers. She managed product marketing, marketing communications, business development and sales support. Goldberg also worked at Kaiser Electronics as a systems engineer on its advanced cockpit display systems.
  • Van Hsieh, vice president, engineering. Hsieh brings extensive experience in Windows and device driver development. Most recently, he held the position of vice president of engineering at Cornerstone Peripherals Technology, Inc., a developer of computer displays and graphics controller cards.
  • Debbie Maier, vice president, sales. Maier brings to Sybergen nearly 20 years of high-tech sales and channels development experience. Previously, she was vice president of sales at TriStrata, a security startup. Maier has also held senior sales positions at Genesys Telecommunications, Informix and Sybase.
  • Keng Lim, chairman. Lim brings broad experience in building successful venture-backed high tech software companies. He was previously founder, CEO and president of Kiva Software, the market leader in Web application servers, until it was acquired by Netscape in 1997. Lim was vice president and general manager of Netscape’s Enterprise Server division. He has been recognized by several key organizations as one of the industry’s "most influential people on the Internet."
  • Skip Glass, board member. Glass brings more than 20 years of operating experience in technology companies, including three successful startups, KIVA Software (acquired by Netscape), Illustra (acquired by Informix), and Sybase and the management of a $400 million business unit at IBM.
