The being known as Ash is actually the product of futuristic alien technology that has interacted with the injured, human physiology of Ashley Quinn.

Many of the secrets of Ash have yet to be revealed. In some ways, the Ash creature is similar to a form-fitting, superpowered body suit, a Russian nesting doll with thee charred body of Ashley Quinn inside. Ashley Quinn has little control over it at first. In fact, Ashley has to wage a battle with its futuristic makers in order to make his consciousness heard and exert control. Although Ashley appears to be in charge when he is in his Ash persona, the final resolution is undoubtedly yet to come.

The Ash creature is superhumanly strong, and can lift about 3000 pounds from a dead lift, and about 4000-5000 pounds [ the weight of the cab of a semi-trailor ] with some leverage. It cannot necessarily fly, but can leap short distances of up to 100 feet. It can also survive a fall of up to 150 feet, and was even impaled through the abdomen during such a fall without any lasting damage. It is also invulnerable to ordinary bullets. The gauntlets on its wrists exude a plasma-like fire of some substance. Ashley has little control over its form; at best, he can create simple objects and geometric forms. He can also control the temperature of his fiery plasma, and could even tie someone with it, though it does always feel warm to the touch [ Note: the cooler it is, the quicker it dissipates. Maximum dissipation time is 30 minutes, unless it is acted upon by outside temperatures ]. Ash's fire effects would be useless in outer space, and ASH himself would dissipate in the cold temperatures of deep space.

The Ash creature's body temperature is approximately 120-degrees when stable. He is warm to the touch and steams in cold areas or water. He is a living battery of flame, needing to be recharged at regular intervals, depending on how much plasma he has expended. He can recharge himself as easily as holding his hand over a stove, or as dramatically as sucking the flames from a burning room.

He can also overcharge [ as in Ash #2's battle with Theresa ]. If he absorbs too much, he must expend that energy immediately or stand the chance of losing control and burning everything around him.

He also has the ability to increase his overall core body temperature [ Ash: The Fire Within #1 ]. The Future Ash gives off a similar nuclear particle beam from his wrist gauntlets which caused cancer to those around him; whether there are any similar drawbacks to the present Ash creature is unknown at present time.
