Back to town

1/3/97

Well, I got back to Cambridge/Boston last night at the end
of a 2-week holidays get-away to New York (and Washington DC).
I guess living away from "home" -- ie. parents -- obliges one
to make return visits and spend time with family on vacation/
breaks if possible. And so it was to New York that I went for
the third time in as many months, surprisingly enough, for a
family reunion of sort (which remained incomplete due to the
absence of a sister who had just left for Vietnam to start
work there last month). And so went two rather uneventful
weeks of (immediate and extended) family gatherings, dinners,
shopping, and all-too-brief dash down to Washington DC to visit
relatives and sightsee (more for the sake of my brother's TWO
female friends from Japan who were vacationing with my family),
for which there's little to report/review, except a few operas
I once again managed to catch at the MET. In any case, I'll
post the reviews, and miscellanous sundry, for those who might
be interested in such ramblings for which I've been notorious.
Advance warning is in order about the relatively low queer and
Asian/Vietnamese content which follows, especially for the non-
opera (and/or musicals) queens among us. Far more relevant,
for those who are curious/interested, might be an intriguing
account of a visit of mine to The Web (formerly known as Club
58), the gay Asian joint in town, about which I'll write up
later in a separate posting, if I'll get around to it that is.

In any case, I'm back, and would like to wish everyone a good
start on the new year. I'm still waiting for a jump start on
mine ... any volunteer, or suggestions for one? :-)

PS: Many thanks to the emails and cards of season's greetings
which greeted me upon my return. (And sorry about how amiss,
and late if that, I've been in keeping up with such courtesies!)
