The links (at the lower left) branch to several educational (research) topics. The first of these is a lengthy historical geology (paleogeography) thesis titled "Evolution of the Colorado River and its Tributaries". It presents a model for the river starting with the late Cretaceous through the Tertiary (Miocene) with the linchpin being the formation and origin of the Grand Canyon. For those readers that don't want to wade through the whole story, there are a short summaries on the Kaibab Plateau and Desolation Canyon "Image" pages

The
"Image Index" page links to many areas of geologic / scenic interest throughout the southwest. Each page has a brief description of a location (including its geologic origin), and how it fits into the model. All of these include 3-D computer generated images including a 4 image spread of the Grand Canyon area. Also, a Cenozoic map page has maps showing the old river paths from 65 million years ago up to the time of the Grand Canyon event about 5.5 million years ago.

The second category concentrates on mathematical combinatoric (probabillity / frequency) analysis of popular games.such as Monopoly, Bridge, Bingo, Pig (Pig-out), Poker, and Shut the Box. Statistical tables and graphs show the probability and frequencies of various outcomes.

For example, "Monopoly" (
"Land on" graph) shows the exact probability of landing on various spaces. "Bridge" covers the probability of being dealt various point counts, distributions, and the probabilies of various suit splits as well as how many ways a hand could be bid. Bingo includes the probability for several patterns as well as when a standard bingo is most likely to occur. (Single and multi-board analysis) Topics include algorithms and examples showing how to calculate the results.

The third category concentrates on graph and number theory (enumeration). Tables concentrate on how many ways something could happen. Computational algorithms and computer source code are included as well as the numerical statistics. (Some of these get a "little" deep.)

Durango, Colorado is located in the Animas River Valley just a few miles southeast of the 13,000-ft. high La Plata Mountains. Local attractions include the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Durango Mountain Resort (skiing), Mesa Verde National Park, and some of the world's most frightening highways and jeep "roads".
