Top 8 - Semifinal : Jussi Perälä vs Mike Wall

By Tuomas Kuusniemi and Jarno Härkönen

Before the game Mike needs to cool down for a while from the last match. He walks around for a while when the audience is asking if Jussi has any Tunnels or Goblin Digging Teams in his sideboard (destroy target Wall :). Jussi asks for tablejudge Wäiski to shuffle Mikes deck since he has himself managed to break his opponents sleeves with bad shuffling earlier. Jussi wins the dieroll and chooses to play first. Jussi smiles and says "if this were limited I would let you play first". Jussi doesn't mulligan but he is bluffing that he has a pretty weak hand. Mike chooses to doublemulligan and starts the with an opening hand including 2 lands, Birds of Paradise, Fires of Yavimaya and a Shivan Wurm. Jussi opens by playing a Kris Mage which ruins Mikes plans completely. Despite of the Mage Mike chooses to play Birds which then meets Seal of Fire while Jussi attack with the Mage. Next turn Mike just plays a land. Jussi attacks and plays a Goblin Raider. Mike draws and plays another Bird which only meets Mages ability. Then Jussi attack with the Raider and plays a Tanglewire. In response to this Mike scoops up his cards and starts sideboarding.

Mike sideboards his Obliterates out and adds more Flametongue Kavus and Shivan Wurms while Jussi is adding 4 Ensnaring Bridges. Before the next game Mike is demanding a new shuffler becouse he wasn't very happy with Wäiski's shuffling skills. He is not allowed to do this so he demands that Wäiski must now shuffle Jussi's deck. By the power of Wäiski's magic touch, Jussi is now forced to mulligan. Mike starts by playing a Bird which next turn meets Seal of Fire. Then Jussi plays a Goblin Raider. Mike plays a Fires . Jussi adds 2 Kris Mages on his side and attack with the Goblin. Mike then casts a Flametongue Kavu on Goblin and serves for 4. Then Jussi attacks with Mages and lays down an Ensnaring Bridge. Then another Kavu shows up eliminating Jussis secong Mage. The game is stalled by the Bridge, Jussi just randomly using the Mage and casting burn spells to lower Mike's life totals while Mike is building up his army of useless attackers. Finally Mike draws into the white mana he has been waiting for. He plays the Battlemage with both kickers and attack with his horde. The game is quickly finished.

In the third game it's Mike's turn to take a mulligan. Audience thinks that team Finland should take Wäiski with them to the Worlds just to shuffle their opponents decks :). This game is just serious beats. Jussi starts with Raging Goblin then Shocking Mike's Elf and adding another Raging Goblin. When Mike plays a Fires Jussi throws the Tanglewire into table. And that's about it. At that point Mike was holding two lands and two Sapproling Burst in his hand. But with the Tanglewire in the table all Mike could do was just to play land. For the finishing Jussi plays Rhystic Lightnig, Shock and a Seal of Fire.

We tought that the match-up was very much in favor of the Fires but as we see if the Sligh draws the right cards there seems to be no deck or player that can beat it.

Jussi Perälä wins 2-1
