A few places not mentioned:
*Hand-pulled (lamien) noodles: Heavy Noodling, 153 E. Garvey, between Atlantic and Garfield on Garvey; also try a place called Wu's in the San Gabriel Mall, at Valley and Del Mar in San Gabriel (although it was closed the last time I went there.
*Dim sum: the best in the San Gabriel Valley is the old Harbour Village in Monterey Park on Atlantic (I think in another response I mistakenly identified it as being on Garvey) -- it's now called something like Harbour Empress (I think it merged with Empress Pavillion). Some rare items, liked steamed turnip cake instead of the usual panfried. Very nice taro items. Dumplings are also about as good as you can get these days: the "pi" (shell) is relatively thin and chewy, especially the vegetable ones. Second best dim sum is NBC on Atlantic (not Garvey, as I responded before), which is just south of Garvey, past the Marie Callender's on the left.
*Sichuan: a place in a shopping mall called Valley Plaza, on Valley in San Gabriel, just east of Del Mar on the right. Great cold noodle and spicy braised fish.
*Shanghainese: Mei Long Village: 301 West Valley, just west of the San Gabriel mall. Good vegetable dumplings; su bing (a radish-stuffed pancake); try the amazing pork pump.
*Chinese Islamic: mentioned above in another response.
*Cantonese at night: former Harbor Village; see my comment above on dim sum.
*Chao Zhou: 888, 8450 Valley Blvd., Rosemead.
