Message: | I certainly second the recommendations of Martha's, Uncle Bills, Maxwell's, etc. Our personal favorite, however, has to be the devastatingly good C J's Pantry in Redondo Beach. Granted, that qualifies as South Bay, but, speaking as dedicated westsider converted to the temple of the South Bay: go, you'll love it. Prices are high, but you get what you pay for. They excel in omlettes stuffed with all kinds of crazy stuff - our personal favorite is the artichoke and cheese omelette, topped with sour cream and guacamole (which we always get with a heaping mound of brown rice as a side) and fresh coffee cake (or bannana bread). Not cheap at $8.50, but on several occaisions, we have made our entire meal just out of splitting that order, to give you an idea of how big it is. They seem to do some great sweet stuff, pancakes etc., but that's not usually our thing. Perhaps most amazingly, they aren't nearly as crowded as other hot spots on weekend. Sure, you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but probably not very long. Plus, there's plenty of parking (some metered) around the block. It doesn't have the view of the ocean that Martha's has, but you are just a public park away from the sea. Unlike most westside breakfast places -- and I adore Snug Harbor & S & W cafe -- we emerge rested and relaxed from our time there. 322 S Catalina Ave Redondo Beach, CA 90277 310/318-2411 P.S. Ordinarily, I would have responded to this post within minutes, but I've been in Pennsylvania...post coming soon. P.P.S. Oooh, oooh: for pure westside glory, don't forget about La Dijonaise in Culver City. French in cuisine, attitude, and portions. 10301 Washington Blvd Culver City, CA 90232 (310) 280-0391 |
