Message: | I was visiting my dad two weeks ago in St Petersburg, Florida and got to go to one of my favorite places in the world: Casa de la panne! This has got to be the best Italian bakery west of the Hudson River. It's easy to forget the utter delight of fresh, great Italian bread when you can no longer access it at will. Not to even mention the rolls, calzone, pastries, cookies, cannelonies, etc. Why is it so hard to find good Italian and French bread in LA? I know that Nancy S.,and LaBrea Bakery helped stop our hopeless bread morass some time ago, but I still yearn for great Italian and French. Can a chowhound point me in the right direction? To me there is nothing greater than good coffee and great Italian bread pulled right off the loaf (no need for butter here!), and the morning paper to get the day off to a good start. |
