No Grange, no DRC, no Chateau Latour, whereas the Patina list seems to be populated entirely with these 'correct choices.'" This is just what makes the Campanile list a thing of beauty for this wine geek. Frankly, it doesn't take much wine savvy to tart up a list with a bunch of "trophy wines." Just deep pockets. The Campanile list is a treasure trove of cutting edge wines from small artisanal producers who are doing some of the best work in winedom today. While you may not have opted for a full bottle, given the drive home and all, certainly you could have availed yourself (and maybe you did) of the opportunity to try one of the "by-the-half-carafe" selections? By going this route, I've been able to drink such things as an Austrian riesling from Nigl, a nosiola from Pojer & Sandri in Italy's Trentino, etc. IMO, you're denying yourself a vinous adventure by steadfastly sticking with the tried and true, especially at a place like Campanile, where they REALLY do have passion for, and knowledge of, wine in equal proportions. |
