I appreciate the attempt to keep on track. The thing is that I'm a consultant who travels all over LA County, and so this is fodder not just for the visit of the friend, but for my own use, since times are lean at the moment.
 
I really appreciate the suggestions. I hadn't thought about Middle Eastern food. Indian food, unfortunately, doesn't agree with me, or I'd find a lot more places.
 
Thanks for the suggestions - more than enough for three days worth of chowhounding through the county!
 
One thing we will definitely be doing is going to dim sum at one of the Monterey Park dim sum houses with a group of 10 or so - it usually ends up at $7 or $8 a person.
