Message: | Battambang is either only open at very weird hours or they don't answer the phone when the place is busy. I read the same review and was curious about the place, so I tried phoning for directions and to check the hours. (I live in the South Bay, and didn't want to make the drive downtown only to discover that the place was closed.) I called at around 6 PM on a Thursday, a time when you would expect a place to be open, and got no answer. Okay, perhaps they're closed for some Cambodian holiday I've never heard of. I tried again on the weekend and the phone was busy for hours on Saturday, then it just rang on Sunday. I tried again later that week and someone who spoke no English answered the phone. There were restaurant-ish noises in the background, so I assumed I had the right place but I couldn't inderstand anything he said. I tried again a few days later and the phone just rang. The next time I called I got someone who actually understood English. I asked when the restaurant was open.
"It's open now."
"How late will you be open, please?"
"We're open now, open tonight."
"How late in the evening?"
"Until we are closed."
"When will that be?"
"We're open tonight."
I have still never tried Cambodian food, but hope to do so sometime soon. |
