Message: | Okay, I have to confess a couple of things, mostly to julia, the Bay Cities putter-forwarder-thingee.
I love Italian markets. I'm from New Jersey, home of more Italian people per square foot than anywhere save Italy. I love being able to buy things that I can't find elsewhere, especially San Marzano tomatoes for cheap.
Their water mozzarella (who calls it that?! it's FRESH mozzarella) is excellent... and it's very close, walking distance from me, which is a BIG plus, especially for my annual Italian dinner for the Feast of San Gennaro.
But that appy counter is just HEINOUS. It's always got at least a twenty-minute wait, and things that could be self-serve (I mean, come on... have an olive bar, put the pignoli in a jar) aren't. People ordering sandwiches clog up the works for those of us who just want some pancetta or prosciutto.
The quality is usually OK, but to be honest, I'd rather go to Claro's in San Gabriel if I had the time. Their food and selection are better. That said, I spend an AWFUL lot of money in Bay Cities, and it is wonderful... but that appy counter has GOT to be revamped.
