Mike, welcome to L.A. Try the Wednesday Farmer's market in Santa Monica, 2nd street & (uh oh, I always forget the street names) Arizona? It's one block south of WIlshire.
 
I also really like the Sunday Farmer's market in Hollywood on Ivar just south of Hollywood Blvd. There's free parking in the large lot on Vine (south of Hollywood BLvd.)
