Thanks for the tips. I am going to hit the Tamale cooperative near McArthur park that was mentioned in the LA times this weekend. In an attempt to regulate the tamale street vendors near the park, the city is leasing them regulation carts for a $1 a year, and has set up a space where the vendors can prepare and store their tamales under proper conditions. The place is called Mama's Tamale and I think one can buy there. The article said many varieties of regional tamales are available. What a cool idea.
