There are quite a few good places I would recommend in the area. Picayo in Boat Canyon shopping center is special and great in it's new location. Javier's across from the Hotel Laguna is packed every night and serves good Mexican food. Coyote Grill in So. Laguna features lobster tacos and semi-ocean view terrace.
Splashes at the Sand and Surf hotel has great ocean viewing and wonderful for cocktails or lunch. Jack's in Dana Point on the PCH is a nice , friendly breakfast spot.Finally, Las Brisias in Laguna offers THE view and , surprisingly , good meals. Try the swordfish . Hope this helps !
