I've been told about some bare-bones jazz places in Compton where apprentice musicians would jam with the likes of the late Billy Higgins. Not sure where it's located, but the description sounds a lot like Smalls in NYC. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? By the way, does anyone know if there are still live acts at the Parisian Room on La Brea around Washington? I'm led to believe it was one of the classic LA jazz places from the 60s, and wonder if any of that has survived.
