Message: | It also may have been kimchi chigae (loosely translates to stew) or yuk gae jang (a spicy soup with shredded beef and green onions). Based on what you wrote, it's probably kimchi chigae. Both are standard in most Korean restaurants. Just pop into any Korean restaurant along Olympic, Vermont, Western or thereabouts. As for the recipe... every Korean mother has her own recipe but basically it's beef or pork broth with kimchi, boiled for 20-30 minutes. My mom used to add some combination of potatoes, tofu, squash, bean sprouts, etc. and now I do the same. It's an easy dish to make, but difficult to perfect. It pretty much turns out different every time. |
