I was very intrigued by the Dino's post and LA Times article, so I went to investigate myself. Yummmy!! This place is about as basic as you can get. Traditional burger stand with 2 outdoor tables and a small inside dining area. I saw two people order burgers, but the order of choice was definitely the chicken. It's actually called El Pollo Maniaco. Is that The Maniac Chicken? Most people when ordering simply said, "One order of chicken," although most of the time they said this in Spanish. All orders are a half chicken (breast, wing, thigh, drumstick), fries and coleslaw. The key to their success is the chicken marinade. I don't know what they put in it...I think everything. The chicken comes out red like a tandoori. It's just slightly spicy and definitely infused with garlic flavor. The fries are soggy, but so tasty as when they lay the chicken on top of them they are covered in the spices and marinade. I couldn't stop eating them. Funnily, the sweet coleslaw kind of ties everything together as it compliments the savory and vinegary flavor of the chicken and the fries. I ate every bite, which seems to be the case. The place was busy, with a constant flow of customers. Most people only had bones left on their plates when they finished. I'll be going back!
