Many bottled tomato sauces have too much sugar in them. I look for the ones with the least sugar or no added sugar at all in them. Don't overlook the canned sauces either. Surprisingly the supermarket house brands tend to have the least or no added sugar.
 
Then I just brighten it up a bit with olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh herbs and whatever meat, mushroom, peppers or onions I'm in the mood for.
