i just think you're question is kind of funny because congee is so ordinary and i think that's what makes it so wonderful.
 
i really like the congee at sam woo in old chinatown. my favourite is the classic pork with preserved egg with a side of yao-tui, which i think they call chinese donut.
 
i just made some myself for the first time and it was so ridiculously easy that i don't know that i'll ever order it out again - something my mother thinks is akin to going out especially to order toast.
