Message: | I went to Beluga for brunch last weekend and had an excellent meal. The menu isn't big, but every item we tried was good. The specialty of the restaurant is seafood, and the crabcakes topped with poached eggs and the seafood omelette are both standouts. An oddity: The potatoes aren't the usual fried potatoes, but slices of yam and potato that have been sliced and baked. They come to the table warm rather than hot. We asked why and the owner came over and told us that he doesn't like potatoes fried crisp because he thinks that crisp potatoes have less taste. He will fry them that way of people ask, but only if they ask. Beluga is classy by Beach standards, somewhat out of place in this hypercasual neighborhood but a real treasure. Prices are higher than most of the other places mentioned, but the ambiance is great and there's no rush and bustle the way there is at most other places on weekends. |
