I went to a quaint, family owned steak place Sunday night, A PLACE FOR STEAKS, in Burbank. It has been open for over two years, but I never had given it a try. Though one friend later told me that when it first opened the food and service were rather rocky, my dining partner and I were very impressed Sunday night.

The restaurant is on Burbank Blvd., about 3 blocks west of I-5 on the south side of the street. It is a small building, painted blue. We started with crab cakes as an appetizer. They were excellent; very large, crisp on the outside, moist inside, and very tasty. We then split a Caesar. The dressing was a little creamier than I like my Caesar dressing, but my friend gave it high marks.

For the entree, I had one of the best ribeyes I have had in a while. It was tender, juicy and cooked exactly how I like it (rare, warm center). A very good piece of meat. I rolled my eyes at my friend when he ordered Beef Wellington - he always tends to order the funkiest thing on a menu, a dish a restaurant is NOT known for... and it is usually a disaster. I figured the Beef Wellington, a special, would be the same. I was proved terribly wrong, thankfully -- it was even better than my ribeye. The entrees average 19-24 dollars (The Wellington was 30) but they come with choice of potato and lots of fresh steamed vegetables.

If you have not been, or if you tried it when it first opened and have not returned, I recommend checking it out. I should make one more visit to make sure it is consistent, but if Sunday was any indication, it is a lovely place to eat and a very good value for the food.
