1. The Water Grill, 544 S. Grand Ave. (213)-891-0900 There have been enough raves posted to make this a top contender for a one night out destination.
 
2. Lucques, 8474 Melrose (323)-655-6277 More mixed reviews, but still many raves plus the setting is very attractive. Food is Calif. with Med. and French touches.
 
3. Josie's, 2424 Pico, Santa Monica (310)-581-9888 Has had consistently good reports. Also quiet back room and a pretty space. If Chatty Melissa has gone by this time she might post her review?
 
4. Jiraffe, 502 Santa Monica Blvd. Santa Monica (310)-917-6671 We have been 5 or 6 times and have always enjoyed the food and the service. Not a real quiet place.
 
5. Melisse, 1104 Wilshire Blvd. Santa Monica (310)-395-0881. Have not been but food has gotten some excellent reviews, with a few dissenters. Price may be an issue, but one of those fancy, destination places that should be considered.
