I've taken several cooking classes at the New School of Cooking and loved all of them. The school is located in Culver City across from the Helms Bakery. The classes vary from a professional series to four-week classes (once a week) to one-day classes. I've participated in the one-day classes only. The classes cost about $68 and last about three hours with 16 people per class. Topics include: chicken basics, knife skills, fish basics etc.

Also right around the corner is Surfas, a restaurant supply store that is open to the public. They have everything a cook cook want including a lot of food products. Staff is knowledgable and the prices can't be beat!
