3 Doors Down Talks "Kryptonite," Records With Rush Member
03.30.2000

3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down has just wrapped the first week of its opening spot on the Creed-Sevendust tour, an experience surely made all the sweeter by the fact that the Mississippi-based band's new single, "Kryptonite," is currently number one on the Active Rock radio charts.

Prior to heading out on the road, 3 Doors Down went to Los Angeles to shoot a video for "Kryptonite" with director Dean Carr based around the misadventures and antics of an aging superhero.

In a recent chat with the MTV Radio Network, 3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold talked about the story behind the band's "Kryptonite" single, the first from its just-released debut album, "The Better Life."

"It's kind of about how people are put up on a pedestal," Arnold said. "It's kind of from the [perspective of the] person being raised up [in that way], and he's speaking to the people lifting him up, and he's kind of saying, "If I weren't perfect, would you still be there for me?'" [RealAudio]

During the interview, Arnold and 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell also talked excitedly about some recent recording sessions in which the band collaborated with Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson.

"Since we recorded 'The Better Life,'" Arnold began, "we had the opportunity to go record three songs in New Orleans with Alex Lifeson from Rush. That was a pretty good experience." [RealAudio]

"Yeah, that was wild," Harrell added.

"He's the coolest guy," Arnold agreed. "He's awesome.... [The sessions] turned out really good. We were really happy with them. He did an excellent job producing it, and I'm sure they'll be used for something [in the future], because I think they turned out really well." [RealAudio]

According to the band, the songs they worked on with Lifeson are titled "Dangerous Game," "Dead Love," and "Wasted Me," although there's still no word yet on when or where those tracks will eventually surface.

3 Doors Down has already sold more than 154,000 copies of "The Better Life" since its release in February, and the record is currently at number 42 on the "Billboard" Pop Albums chart.

After its stint on the Creed-Sevendust tour winds down on April 5 in Saginaw, Michigan, 3 Doors Down plans to launch its own tour, beginning on April 6 in Toronto, Ontario.
