Visit from a God

I don't know if I'm supposed to add in all the fine print, but just in case here goes:
These characters don't belong to me, I'm nobody official, etc.

Gabrielle returned from the stream at dusk, carrying a water skin and looking for
Xena. The area around their campfire was empty, but she heard voices coming from a
neaby clearing and recognized one of the voices as Xena’s, so she walked closer to hear
what was going on. When she was finally in earshot, she stopped to listen even though
she couldn’t see what was happening.

Xena moaned. She was saying, "Mmmm, that feels great. Thanks. I think I’ve
needed this for a long time." she gave a soft grunt of pain, then "careful...I’m still pretty
tight back there." Gabrielle blushed crimson immediately, realizing she was intruding on a
private moment. She wondered who the man was, and thought that it was inconsiderate
of Xena not to warn her that she might suddenly take a lover to bed while her friend was
out fetching water. Still, Gabrielle didn’t feel right about breaking up such intimate
happenings so she turned silently to go. But then, the man’s voice responded to Xena’s,
and the bard gasped and stood still. Because it was not just any man - it was Ares.

"Yeah, I can feel it" he was saying. "...you should have asked me for this before,
you know I’m always glad to oblige you...."

Gabrielle listened in shock. How could Xena do this? She’d promised to have
nothing more to do with him, hadn’t she? The bard grew more and more disgusted as the
conversation continued.

"Harder, harder." That was Xena’s voice...Gabrielle couldn’t believe she was
hearing this.
"Like this? I told you I’m good, Xena."
"Mmmm, yes...squeeze there a little. It feels great."
Ares’s voice purred sarcastically, "You were really dying for this kind
of...attention, weren’t you? Why in hades didn’t you mention it until now? Thought I
couldn’t handle this kind of request?"
"Actually, I was kind of afraid of the come-back-to-me strings that always seem to
be attached when you do me a ‘favor’."
"Well, this time you’re wrong. I am capable of acting on a simple physical need,
without expecting emotional results."
"I’m glad to hear it - no one else does this right for me...no one else is
as...forceful. Mmm yeah, now harder."

In stunned disbelief, unwilling to acknowledge what she was hearing, Gabrielle
shifted a branch aside and looked into the clearing. The dark was rapidly gathering, but
still she could make out, plain and distinct, the shape of Xena lying on the ground on her
stomach. The God of War was straddling her hips, his hands on her lower back, moving
rhythmically. Ares’ smug smile, as well as the soft sighs of pleasure that Xena emitted,
made Gabrielle cringe with disgust. She saw Xena’s breastplate on the ground close to
her, and wanted nothing more than to pick it up and use it to beat its owner senseless.
After all their work to control Xena’s dark side, now the warrior was undoing it all by
returning to her old mentor! Gabrielle was feeling betrayed and almost ready to barge into
the clearing and shake some sense into her friend.

Suddenly, Ares stiffened and seemed to listen to something human ears couldn’t
pick up. He said "Hold on...Strife’s calling me. Damn, I have to go now. He’s making a
mess of an imporant campaign and I’d really better go correct it." Seeing Xena’s
disappointment when he disengaged himself and stood up, he added "Of course, any time
you need another back rub, just call me." And he vanished.

Back rub??? Gabrielle watched, relieved, as Xena stood up (except for her
armour, she was fully clothed, of course) and began to walk back towards their campfire.
