NEWS: Connectix® Releases Virtual PC for Windows - 4.3 with
Powerful Features Enabling Seamless Software Deployments
Virtual PC Now Offers The Most Complete Compatibility
Solution to Support Legacy Applications as Enterprises Migrate to new Microsoft
Operating Systems
SAN MATEO, Calif. - March 11, 2002 - Connectix®,
the leading provider of cross-platform compatibility software, is
releasing Virtual PC® for Windows®
Version 4.3, which extends the range of software and hardware support
and provides powerful security, usability and manageability features
enabling seamless software deployments. This updated product release
contains a wealth of new features, driven by customer requests,
including Windows 98SE support, Security Lock-out, Dynamic Resolution
Switching, and DVD ROM data support. Leveraging years of virtual
computing expertise, Connectix Virtual PC allows users to run multiple
operating systems on a single PC simultaneously, enabling them to
consolidate and virtualize their computing environments, thereby
reducing hardware costs and improving productivity.
Virtual PC enables corporate IT professionals to safely migrate
and deploy new operating systems while continuing to run and support
older and custom legacy applications on the upgraded PC, providing
a smooth transition and ensuring that critical data and applications
are safe and secure. Virtual PC is ideal for technical professionals
who need to support multiple computing platforms, such as IT departments,
software developers, call center professionals, and corporate trainers.
Applications in Windows XP, 2000, NT, 98, 95, 3.1 - even DOS, Linux®,
NetWare®, Solaris®, or OS/2 - can run simultaneously on
the same PC with the utmost in compatibility and speed.
New Features Based on Customer Requests
Connectix has incorporated the most requested features from their
customers with this new version, making Virtual PC easier to install
and configure, and providing the user with a more natural experience.
"The majority of the new
features in Virtual PC for Windows 4.3 are not available in competitors'
products," said Mitch Cipriano, vice president of product management
at Connectix. "Virtual PC provides true, hardware emulation
to the lowest level, allowing users to run virtually any PC-based
operating system or application without having to redevelop the
code or develop drivers to support certain operating systems or
platforms."
The key features of Virtual PC for Windows Version 4.3 include:
- Windows 98 SE Support - Windows 98 Second Edition is supported
as both host and guest.
- Security Lockout/Password Protection - Virtual machines
can be configured to launch in full screen mode with a password
to prevent the user from entering the host environment. Also, features
and functions of Virtual PC in both guest and host operating systems
can be password protected.
- DVD-ROM Support - Users can access and read from DVD data
disks, including media such as software installers and DVD ROM disks.
- Dynamic Resolution Switching - Users can re-size guest
OS windows within Virtual PC, and dynamically re-size the desktop
and change monitor resolution and bit depth quickly and without
using the control panel.
- Persistent Undo Drives - Users can continue to use an undo
drive from session to session, accepting or discarding hard drive
changes only when the user wants to commit the changes.
- IDE Threading - Putting the disk I/O on a separate thread
improves hard drive performance in a virtual machine, and also provides
a smoother user interface.
- Virtual Network Computing Support - Administrators can
actively control virtual machines on a host system from a remote
client, granting selected network users remote access to individual
virtual machines within Virtual PC.
- Virtual Switch Capabilities - The Virtual Switch feature
is now available on Windows NT hosts, and fully supports 802.11b
wireless networking.
- Loopback Adapter - Performance optimization and usage of
Microsoft Loopback Adapter for full network capabilities without
a network adapter in the host operating system are included.
