The silence in the bedroom was deafening. The sun rose, the sun set, and finally, a word was spoken.

But there was no one left to hear it.

I can tell. I know plenty of people with crappy jobs, and I know how I feel at the end of a day when my current job has been particularly rotten. I'd hate to have to deal with that every day.

Oooo, Jamie--I think this is a good decision. Having a crappy job just sucks everything out of you.

I wound up having to cancel the interview, as I couldn't get there from here (I don't drive, and would have had to walk along a busy stretch of sidewalkless highway-style bridge, doubtless setting off my not-quite-vertigo.) Which is just as well, as I don't think sales is really for me.

I'm shifting gears from "apply anywhere I think will hire me" to "apply anywhere I think would be a good place to work." I'd rather get a good job in a month than a crap job tomorrow, especially since I already have my part-time survey job to tide me over. I'm scheduled to write the public service tests at the end of the month, anyway, and I'm confident that I'll do well on those -- got 82.5% on the sample on-line test.

I've got an interview with UPS on Friday morning, for an entry level sales rep position. I have a bunch of resumes out as I prepare to get my degree (knock on wood), but this is the only one to have gotten back to me so far.

Jamie - thanks for the heads up and recommendation of Ad-aware. I ran it last night and found all sorts of weird stuff. (I would thank Jaws too, but I don't know where his topic is)

And today I received a copy of Vessel of Heaven in the mail. I didn't realize that it was going to be on a business-card style CD-R. Neat!

The case is a little damaged (one hinge is missing), but the disc doesn't look any the worse for wear.

I received a print of the cover of my book in the mail today -- signed by Hugo Award-Nominated artist Frank Wu! W00t!

I'm going down the street tomorrow and getting this baby framed.

My ebook is out! Yay!

You can buy Vessel of Heaven from Jintsu Etexts here. And once again, thank you to Frank Wu for the absolutely loverly cover. I couldn't have asked for a better one.

Thanks, Lori and Jae. I've gotten a pretty good "haul", if you will. From my friends:

-- a set of four tiki mugs (for mixed drinks.... I don't drink, but I like tacky things.) Each one is carved with a goofy "tribal" face, and named things like "Larry."
-- a big UFO encyclopedia (a strange gift, but I've gotten stranger. Such as the next one.)
-- a Chinese take-out style lunch bag, with a cantaloupe inside.

From my SO:

-- a Scrabble dictionary, since she beat me 2 out of 3 times at Scrabble last weekend.
-- a mysterious "rest of the present" I'll be getting tomorrow.

From my family:

-- Meat Beat Manifesto's new cd, RUOK?, and a 3" cd single from the album.
-- Sonic Youth's Goo album, which I had on tape but not cd.
-- a nice ivory-coloured sweater.
-- some money
-- WWE SmackDown!: Shut Your Mouth for the PS2 (a wrestling video game.)

My friends and I went out on Saturday to celebrate. We went to Boston Pizza for dinner (I'd never been before), and then the nearby bowling lane for Rock'n'Bowl, a black-light-disco-ball-and-DJ bowling extravaganza. This has certainly been my most memorable and fun birthday in at least a year! :) (Seriously, though, it's been the best birthday of many recent ones.)"

Let's try that again. Vessel of Heaven is due out as an e-book from Jintsu Etexts in the very near future. It was announced as February, but I just got the final version to proof last night, so it may be early March.

Today's my birthday. :)

I guess I should post this here too:

Just letting y'all know that I will be on the radio tonight at 11 pm Eastern. I will be cohosting Unease, a show on one of the local college stations (CHUO -- 89.1 FM in Ottawa, or streaming live [hopefully] at www.chuo.fm.) In addition to being a "celebrity guest host", I will be selecting tracks for a half-hour set.

This is all to promote the show I'll be playing on February 17th at Bumpers here in Ottawa (as We v2), with Liar's Rosebush and Foil Circuit.

Hey Jamie -
just letting me know what the mss is about in general will help, or what the gist of it is in one sentence, that will help immensely, as I haven't gotten the text yet from Roach.

Cool! Cover art by the Hugo-nominated artist Frank Wu!

I'll send you an e-mail within the next day or two (possibly even tonight); I want to go over the mss and see if I can find passages I think are particularly evocative.

Jamie,
Raechel asked if I'd be willing to do the cover art for your Vessel of Heaven, and I said - oh, yeah, baby!

She hasn't sent the text yet. But I was wondering if you might have some ideas for what might be a cool image?

If you want, you can send me an email at Qarlo999@hotmail.com

Thought I should mention in my own topic, as well as elsewhere, that my short story "The Solitary Loafer" is up at The Fortean Bureau. That's www.forteanbureau.com, if I boobed up the HTML.

Y'all let me know what you think, 'k?

Really? Hmm. Interesting... I wonder if anyone ever let Jeff Rovin know. (Of the Ultimate Guide to Nintendo Games series, where I got that information.)

By the way Jamie, River City Ransom is beatable -- that fence you were talking about gave me pause at first, then I checked the faq and saw I hadn't encountered all the bossess so I went back and found them, finished them and then when I returned to the fence, the guard Ivan came out. I beat Ivan, went inside and went the rest of the way. No sweat.

I heard from Raechel at Jintsu yesterday, and it looks like Vessel of Heaven will be slated for a February 2003 release, now.

Thanks, Terry and Lori. It feels great to be done, and the really surprising thing is that I think, with some polishing, it might actually stand a chance out there in the Big Bad World.

I highly recommend it to anyone who isn't embroiled in a "real" novel when November rolls around next year. It certainly gets the juices going, and if -- like me -- you have a tendency to abandon things partway, it helps you get over that, at least temporarily.

My only concern right now is that I may no longer be able to write one word when I could say the same thing in two or three. :)

Fifty thousand words in November. My back aches, but what do I care? Hurrah.

Sguidry, and any other WriMo/Millers -- how goes it?

Hmm... I don't have any reliable references handy, so I'll just say that it's one of the more significant numbers out there, IIRC. At least in some circles.
