And my contributor's copies of the new British Magazine 3SF arrived yesterday. It's a very spiff package.

This is cool. Terri Windling's Endicott Studios web site has a link to THE OGRE'S WIFE (goes directly to Amazon) on their "Recommended" page, with the following comment:

"This small press collection is well worth seeking out. These well-crafted stories range from fairy tales, fables, and high fantasy to contemporary tales and dark fantasy on the border of horror. This is a writer to watch."

It's much too close to Congress, that's for darn sure.

WFC went pretty well. I'd rather the short story panel I was on dwelled more on the advantages of short stories vs novels rather than arguing about whether one was a bridge to the other, but you can't have everything. The mass signing Friday was fun. I got to meet Tina Jens and Lori White and Helen Thompson and various other illustrious folk.

D.C., huh? Isn't that near the old Mason-Dixon line? Hmmm.

Got it, Terry.

You too, Lori. Washington? Sigh. I'll think about that next year. I can't go to any more conventions until I've paid for this one. ;)

Hey, Richard, it was sure neat to meet you!

Time to start the count-down until Washington, D.C.

Nope. Been busy. I forgot to send it. On its way tonight.

Message 52 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-11-03 17:25:14. Feedback: 0/0

Hmmm. I'm home, but haven't seen a story yet. Did you send it to the sff.net address?

Message 51 was left by Terry Bramlett on 2002-10-31 12:11:19. Feedback: 0/0

Have a safe trip, Richard. You'll find a story in your inbox from me when you get home.

Leaving in the morning for WFC, if all goes well. Anyone there, feel free to stop by and say hi.

Goal for Jamie and TerryB!

Ah. Enlightenment. Thank you!

Message 47 was left by Terry Bramlett on 2002-10-28 23:54:31. Feedback: 0/0

Jamie, I think you may be right. The story does have a Clark Ashton Smith feel to it.

Message 46 was left by Jamie Rosen on 2002-10-28 22:15:35. Feedback: 0/0

I'd guess Clark Ashton Smith.

I hate to reveal my ignorance, Richard, but...who's CAS? (I just know I'm going to feel really stupid when I find out)

Message 44 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-10-28 18:22:20. Feedback: 0/0

Sold another story to _Weird Tales_, an old-fashioned CAS type thing. I'm glad there are still places that publish those, since every now and then I want to write one.

Got my first Amazon review today (saw it today, anyway). Another milestone passed.

Message 42 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-10-11 12:51:11. Feedback: 0/0

It is, Terry. Every now and then I have to pull out a copy, look at it, and giggle. Usually I do this in private for obvious reasons. ;)

Message 41 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-10-11 12:50:09. Feedback: 0/0

I should add that it's near the bottom of the page, at the entry for 9/30/2002.

There's a really cool review of the collection up at the Iron Gall Ink site:

Great feeling, eh Richard? Enjoy!

Now I got LOTS of copies. Several of which I'm preparing to mail out. Soon they will be gone, and I'll miss them.

Message 37 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-09-25 14:28:11. Feedback: 0/0

Not only is it a book, I have a copy right here in my hot little hands. I've waited a long time for this, however it turns out.

Message 36 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-09-18 15:11:32. Feedback: 0/0

It's a book. _The Ogre's Wife: Fairy Tales for Grownups_ is now available from the publisher(www.wunzpub.com) and BAMM online and Amazon, the poor thing. Thrown out alone into the howling, uncaring aether.

Galleys arrrived for "Worshipping Small Gods." It's tentatively scheduled for the Feb 2003 issue of Realms of Fantasy.

And today's mail brought various promotional items from the publisher: postcards, envelope, a copy of the mock-up for the Publisher's catalog... He's had a few pre-order inquiries; I take that as a good sign.

Message 33 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-08-29 15:58:53. Feedback: 0/0

The first printer's proof of The Ogre's Wife has been mailed to the publisher. It's almost a book.

Message 32 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-08-22 14:19:16. Feedback: 0/0

Most of the sff.net traffic on this was in Sherwood Smith's newsgroup, as she was the editor. And I do remember submission reports in the response-time newsgroup there. If you weren't in either place it would have been easy to miss, yes.

Message 31 was left by Lawrence M. Schoen on 2002-08-21 12:46:44. Feedback: 0/0

I wonder how I managed to miss any awareness of the most recent sff.net anthology. I'm guessing this is the one that came after BONES OF THE WORLD (or am I mixing the title up with the recent Swanwick novel? The one that Bruce edited). I don't recall so much as seeing a notice for it, let alone hearing of anyone submitting anything. Damn. I've been out of too many loops.

Was there an sff.net NG for this?

Lawrence

Received the galleys for the sff.net anthology, BEYOND THE LAST STAR, today. Other than the normal urge to rewrite, can't find a thing wrong, which doubtless means I've missed something.

Message 29 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-08-07 15:19:06. Feedback: 0/0

It's almost a book. The electronic version is complete and is just waiting for the copyedit before it goes to the printer.

Message 28 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-07-30 15:21:42. Feedback: 0/0

I'm getting my ducks in a row for WFC. Anyone else going this year?

Message 27 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-07-23 17:24:37. Feedback: 0/0

Collections never go out of date. This just means I'll eventually have enough stories for another one. ;)

Message 26 was left by Barry Hollander on 2002-07-23 16:28:05. Feedback: 0/0

Gratz on the RoF sale. When your collection comes out, it'll be way out of date.

Message 25 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-07-16 20:39:58. Feedback: 0/0

Hey, if _I_ wrote it, it's got dialogue. Picking the _best_ dialogue may be a trick since, in me humble opinion, I do dialogue fairly well.

Granted, _reading_ it is another thing entirely.

Message 24 was left by Barry Hollander on 2002-07-16 18:30:49. Feedback: 0/0

Richard: Go for the one with the best dialogue, if you can do different voices fairly well. Lots of fun, I'd think.

If you can't do voices, then look for the story with no dialogue at all, or maybe just, "Rosebud."

Message 23 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-07-16 16:49:32. Feedback: 0/0

The publisher wants me to pick one of the stories and do a recording for promotional purposes. Which one, which one. Nothing's simple. I love them all, but some would work aloud better than others.

I base the harshness of my crits on the temperature of my coffee. If it gets cold, look out.

Message 21 was left by Richard Parks on 2002-07-05 10:57:09. Feedback: 0/0

Oh, I dunno. The more irritated I am the more likely I am to be harsh. Writers should get used to harsh...

Message 20 was left by Terry Bramlett on 2002-07-02 20:12:04. Feedback: 0/0

That is a great review, Richard. I hope someday to be reviewed as favorably by Charles De Lint and have a forward written by Parke Godwin.

Barry -- I've bothered him a bunch about when the book can be ordered, so I must stop. Can't irritate Richard too much. He gets a chance to crit my stories in person.
