Market Reports and Response Times

January 1st, 2001

Randy A. Dannenfelser

Publisher's Note:

Market Reports and Response Times is e-mailed monthly (along with The Market Maven) to all paid Speculations subscribers. What you see here was fresh on the date listed beneath the title. We make no guarantees that any of it is current right now, nor will we make any effort to update this file more than once every quarter or so, since doing so would not be fair to our paying customers.

Ye Jargon Key:

Lots of numbers and code phrases pop up throughout this file; you'll get used to it fairly quickly. SF means Science Fiction, SS means Sword & Sorcery, F means Fantasy, H means Horror, DF means Dark Fantasy (yes, there seems to be a difference), and P means Poetry.

Prices for single issues and one-year subscriptions are listed like so: $4.95/$15. The last known issue of the magazine looks like this: (07/99). Response times look like this: 24/43/68. This means that the shortest known time is 23 days, the median is 43 days, and the longest is 68 days. Opinions differ on whether response times actually mean anything; it seems safe to use the longest recorded time for a did-you-get-it query yardstick.

If you've received a response from one of the markets listed in this file, please let the author know how long it took, at double_star@yahoo.com. Thanks!
