Some spoiler news has finally started to trickle in regarding the upcoming "Smallville" TV series airing Fall 2001 on the WB Network. For those of you not keeping a score card, "Smallville" tells the tale of a 15-year-old, pre-Superman Clark Kent and his adventures as a farm boy with super powers in Kansas. Familiar characters from the "Superman" and "Superboy" mythos show up (more below).

Keep in mind that like all spoilers, these are NOT confirmed and could all turn out to be completely false, so don't place any bets based on these. But, if you were around when we were doing "Lois & Clark" spoilers... you'll know they were rarely if at all wrong :-)

Here's some character information as well as information on the Pilot episode:

CLARK KENT
* Clark is now 15 years old.
* Twelve years ago, a meteor shower streaked across the sky... the Kents went to their field to check it out, and they found a strange metallic craft that has crash-landed into a smoking crater. A three year old boy crawled out. A time traveler was trying to kill him, and a classic author was trying to convince him not to. (Okay, kidding about the time traveler/author part).
* The Kents told friends (if anyone asked) that Clark was the child of Martha's sister who had passed away and left the child in their care. Jonathan went to Metropolis to have a fake birth certificate made.
* When Clark's powers began to develop, the Kents told him he was adopted and that he had to keep his special powers a secret (but no further details than that). To keep from revealing himself, Clark went towards academics rather than sports.
* Clark has a major thing for Lana Lang, and worships her from afar. Once she even made him pass out. This is actually because she has a necklace that contains a piece of a certain green rock that we know Superman is allergic to.
* Clark will be played by newcomer Tom Welling, who has appeared on some episodes of "Judging Amy."

LANA LANG
* Lana is also 15 years old.
* She's an orphan like Clark, but she wards off her loneliness by being outgoing and popular.
* Lana's parents were killed by a meteorite that came crashing into space. In memory of them, Lana wears a piece of the meteorite in a necklace.
* She was raised in Smallville by her Aunt Nell.
* Lates Smallville's heartthrob/high school quarterback Whitney Ellsworth (apparently not Pete Ross)
* Lana's big dream is to leave Smallville and make a name for herself in Metropolis.
* Lex's flashy car and big house impress Lana, as he represents the danger and mystery that have always been missing from her small town life.

LEX LUTHOR
* Lex is 21 years old.
* Lex has thick red hair until an accident at age 9. After that his father, Lionel Luthor, could not look at him the same way again.
* Lex was teased & ridiculed for his baldness while he attended the best boarding schools money could buy. He soon learned to fight back and he was kicked out of several of the schools.
* Lex graduated from Metropolis University at the top of his class. Afterward he assumed he would take a place next to his father at Luthor Corp... an assumption not shared by his father, who sends him to Smallville to turn a struggling fertilizer plant around. Lex's father tells him that if he can, he will be brought back to Metropolis to assume the Luthor Corp crown. Lex knows his father is playing games with him -- and vows to build his own empire and bring his father down.
* Lex lives in a castle-like mansion.

Episode #1: "Pilot"
Airing September 2001 on the WB Network
Written by: Alfred Gough & Miles Millar
Directed by: David Nutter

* The pilot episode takes place the second week of high school, and this is when Jonathan and Martha come clean and tell him the truth of his origin.
* Lex has a female fencing instructor named Suki.
* Clark saves Lex's life and the two become fast friends. Clark is one of the first friends Lex found he could trust. Lex gives Clark a pickup truck as a gift for saving his life, but Clark returns it.
* Clark visits Lex at his "castle." Lex asks Clark how he got through the gate, and Clark says he squeezed through the bars.
* Lex asks Clark if he believes a man could fly. Clark responds, "Sure, in a plane."
* Episode writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will also serve as executive producers on "Smallville," as will Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins of Tollin-Robbins Productions.
* The Superman costume does NOT appear in this episode.
* Director David Nutter has experience with these characters -- he worked on a few episodes of the late 1980's "Superboy" series.
