Download The Shadow of Life here!

The Shadow of Life was a project that I started years back when I was still in my 10th year of high school (of course when I had started it at the time the games direction was drastically different than the way it ended up) and it carried me into a year after graduation...the basic premise of the game was an escape to allow myself to feel I was DOING something through the time I was taking erratic college courses (that I knew I didnt need) and being unemployed...
Initially the game was going to be about a serial killer that you play and you go follow his life stalking victims...watching them in their daily actions, following them...etc. however after a few maps of this I became very bored with this concept and decided to possibly put this serial killer in a relationship, this is where the game started off...however soon after that the plot totally lost its grip on me and while I programmed this game, the game unveiled itself to me...I actually enjoyed coming home from school to work on the game just to see where it would take me - and after totally re-writing the storyline at least a dozen times I made something that I was moderatly pleased with!

The game's mechanics work with quantum theory, metaphysics, and emotional trauma...the game itself I think is enjoyable because you CAN connect with the main characters, of course like project of this size, I made this game for MYSELF, so I didnt want to spend time on things that didnt matter...so far the response for this game has been greatly appreciated! While this game probably doesnt compete graphically or have the programming complexity that modern rm2k games have, I can only say that since I'm not a very good "programmer" I like to stick to the actual storytelling of a game...This game does however sport at least 3 different custom battle systems, and menu systems...but the heart of the game is in the story, and I know from personal experiences that it can and will touch you =)

Game Specs:

  • Run time -- 345 maps (approx. 9-15 hours long)
  • Battles -- few, and far between
  • Genra -- Introspection/Metaphysics/Quantum Theory
  • Originality -- music and chipsets are ripped/modified rips, but plot is entirely original...
  • Enjoyability -- A+ (from what I have been told)

What IS the "shadow of life" exactly?
  • That is very complicated...later in the game it is explained...
This game is pretty long...do you have anything to say regarding that?
  • Sure, remember that I spent a lot of time on it because I wanted to see where it would take me...thats really the concept here, it unveiled itself, and it happened to be a long story...
So what is the story of this game...er...in summary?
  • Well, the game takes place modern day around a character named Narin (narin was the hero from another one of my games that was never released to the public) who is going through some seeded emotional problems and yet tries to see the world with a complacent gaze...
Oh no...this isnt one of those kind of stories is it?
  • Oh not at all! If it were then people just wouldn't PLAY it! >=D
Okay, go on...
  • Well, in summary, it is about about a disturbance in the time continuum, something that started a long time ago and has now landed its effect on present day...It's about a modern day organisation that believes it is a direct decendent (through various means of discovery) of this original breakdown of time...It is also a love story between narin and kara, it is about fate, suicide, and psychological anomalies...It is about physics, aetheric forces, subatomic planes and quantum theory...I mean, its sort of hard to piece everything together without giving away the entire game, but its entertaining enough to hold the right kind of person =)
Well it sounds just plain complicated...what do you have to say to that?
  • Its really not...the game is supposed to be fun, you're not supposed to be learning anything from it, I mean, you can get by in the game doing as little as possible and thats okay, but as long as you're following the dialogue then it should be a lot of fun!
Why do you emphasise the dialogue?
  • Well overall this is a story...its...a LOT of talking in this game...so if you want to play something with more action this is NOT IT - in fact I encourage players to try to avoid battles because I would rather you actually FINISH it than spend a lot of time tediously hitting the enter key...
Well, what kind of person do you think would most likely enjoy this game?
  • Okay, if you read a lot of the shit that I write about on this site and you say "heh, this girl is cool" then you'd like the game...if you're someone who hates console games - you'd probably like this game...lets just say that if you actually take the time to read even HALF of the material that is on this website - You'll probably like this game ;-)

Visitor Submitted: After I get to the Hotel after the dinner date, (and this is after several attempts at playing) I get stuck. The Sks creature in the closet and working on the room's PC have been all I was able to accomplish. I know there has to be something after this. I would love to be able to finish this game.
  • Okay, I have received quite a few questions like this, not JUST relating to this room but to difficult parts in general...see, I tried to make this game - easy - however, I'm just one measily creator - how would I know the way that everyone's mind works...so I decided to create a Shadow of life Walkthrogh which can also be found on the main RM2K menu at the top of the screen...er...unless you dragged it down here with you ;-)
Visitor Submitted: How do I get the best weapon? It's hard to get those 3 crystals....
  • Hmmm...Well, I am not sure what weapon you are referring to as there are technically 3 "best weapons" The Desilator Rifle, The Quantum Replicator, and Component X...The Desilator Rifle is manufactured from a crystal called "Extania" and you only need one of these crystals to build the rifle... (you will find a person that sells this crystal in the latter part of chapter 2 and will be able to construct the rifle in the early part of chapter 3) In order to get this Extania crystal you need 3 pieces of Extania, you will have to trade to get this item and it can be very time consuming, but the weapon is uberleet...
The Quantum Replicator comes in 2 forms and both are available in the same location which is the front ITM room (right when you walk in) but you will need keycards A-D to get in...you get these keycards by hacking computers...so...by hacking all 4 computer terminals in the game, you will receive keycards A-D =D
Component X is one of the last items in the game that you may chance across - more information on that is in the Shadow of Life Walkthrough...
Visitor Submitted: Why does the download not work?
  • *goes to download page*

*goes to Shadow of Life page*

Obviously, whoever does the webmastering on this site is a moron...
I fixed the link btw =)
Visitor Submitted: i have some game ideas that i can't get off the ground because of tehnical problems, can you make my fantasy a reality?
  • Uhmmm...sure, but I charge $15 for consulting, $150 for scripting, $1,500 for graphics and additional programming, and $15,000 for a new car
Visitor Submitted: hey iv payed your game its great but im haveing trouble starting a new game i dont know how to use rpg maker 2000 please help me i madley want to make a game
  • Hmmmmm...well...consulting the manual would probably be a good place to start, if you have anything specific to ask me it would be easier to respond to...
