Daily Thoughts. Mischief, Mayhem, Movies.

Don't expect a plot analysis here, or even a long, comprehensive review. This book is too good to degrade by giving away too much plot information. Just buy the book, read it (it's short) and enjoy. Trust me.

The idea of hijacking and then crashing a plane isn't exactly looked upon lightly these days. After the tragedies, it's really no wonder either. Unfortunately Chuck Palahniuk's Survivor was written many years before 9/11. The whole idea of a Survivor movie has been scrapped. People don't want to see a terrorist as a main character in a film.

But that's just the thing. Tender Branson, really isn't a terrorist in the traditional sense. Instead of terrorizing through guns, bombs and threats, he does so with a smile and a finely tuned wink. He's a religious leader, pitchman and fitness expert all rolled into one increasingly strange package.

You'll read about the rise and fall of a strange little Amish-man who likes to run a fake suicide hotline for fun. You'll ponder the existence of the pornography landfill and the treasures within.

More than anything, Survivor looks upon celebrity with a very wary eye. Is it possible to be loved and adored and still maintain some semblance of sanity? Clearly, to Chuck, the answer is no.
