I'd like to make a proclamation. Mr. Personality is easily the most disturbing TV show of the century. Well, if Michael Jackson wasn't on TV so much, it would be. The girl looking for love is Hayley, a sweet and pretty - almost normal young woman. I say almost because on the show she kisses men in masks that make the Elephant Man look like David Hasselhoff. Could they find a more horrifying carapace for these would-be paramours? The masks are blocky and multi-color nightmares like something that would appear if Hieronymus Bosch, Picasso and Dali had a love child. Simply...frightening.

I don't dare ask why somebody would want to be involved in a show like this. The question has been asked and answered many times over. I get easily frustrated when I see pretty, young women talking about the bad guys she's dated. Then I say to the television "hey baby I'm here." Then I feel bad for about 2 minutes, see her kissing a red-block-headed freak and all is right with the world.

One more observation: you would think that normally looking guys would tend to have a pretty good rap, or at least act normal. We tend to have to work pretty hard at it, after all. But no. Many in this group were motley, Comic Book Guy-like characters - bringing her frog statues and reading bad, overemotional poetry. It's bad for society, but as usual, it makes pretty good television.

Another stupid, staged picture.

To be honest with you, I didn't really watch the show. I just TiVo-ed it and scanned through. I suppose there's some kind of elimination process. Some of the masked-freaks were chosen to woo and romance the glowing Hayley. They're all normal looking guys, which is strange. If I was to find any of them was a serial killer, I wouldn't be surprised. After all isn't that what the neighbors always say when they're interviewed by reporters and police? Oh, he was so quiet and normal.

Mr. Personality will soon take (an even more) disturbing turn, when other girls are brought into the house and the men are spied upon in order to show Hayley the real, scummy side. Oh boy, is this going to be a mess. A gender-fight of epic proportions.

Couple all this weirdness with the hosting duties of Monica Lewinsky and you've got the combination for one of the weirdest, most Euro-like shows in American History. The show...is hosted...by someone...only known...for slobbering on the president's johnson. Let that sink in a little.

TV Grade: Nightmarishly fascinating (or C)
