Jean's Message
Dear Stitchers,
I don’t know about you but I am so tired of winter and all this snow. The only good thing about it is that when we can’t go out , there is a lot of time to stitch.
Joan Murphy has found some great things for us to do for our outreach programs. In March, we will be sewing totebags for walkers and tiny hospital gowns for the dolls that they use with pediatric patients to help explain their surgeries. These items are so simple but the gratitude with which they are received is heartwarming.
In April, Joan and I will assist you with a crewel project. I hope to have the stitched sample to show in March. And we are still looking for a 1st Vice President so if you’d like to try an office we’d be glad to hear from you. There is no better way to serve your organization and besides it can be lots of fun.
Plans are also underway for the June banquet and luncheon so start saving you pennies and finish your Billie Award if you haven’t already.
We should be hearing soon about our class selections at Little Stitches and we all looking forward to a fun time.
Happy stitching,
Jean

March meetings - Outreach Program - Joan Murphy
We are doing an Outreach meeting for March day and evening meetings. The objects that we will be working on are walker bags and little hospital gowns for the pre-op dolls for the pediatrics units.
The materials needed will be:
Sewing machines - (some already volunteered)
Any scrap material - juvenile for the hospital gowns would be best
Bias tape - lots
Ribbon
Anything we can use to make ties for the walker bags
Scissors
Thread
Pins
Kathy Fonda and Debbie Bender will be coordinators for the evening meeting and Jean Klym and Dixie Nohara will be helping me with the day meeting because I will unfortunately not be able to attend this meeting. All patterns for the hospital gowns and walker bags will be to them prior to the meeting so you will all have patterns and samples. Good luck and thanks so much for you generosity with time and supplies. Any materials left over at the meetings, I will work on the items at home.
Also, if you do not want to work on these, we will have multiple knit and crochet patterns for hats and slippers. Any questions about these can be directed to Mary Hickox.

News From MER - Judy Cain
If you are taking a GCC sponsored by MER, please remember that your completed piece must be turned in at Little Stitches in May in order to receive a critique. I will be collecting these at our April meetings. If yours isn't complete, you may still turn it in for an evaluation of the portion you have completed.
We now have candidates for Region Director and Asst Region Director. Anne Ward, of Chemung Valley EGA in Elmira, and Gerry Stark, of Buffalo, are running for Region Director and Asst Region Director of MER.
Little Stitches 2003 is coming up soon -- the first weekend in May, in Erie PA. If you sent in a registration for Little Stitches 2003, you should be hearing shortly about your class selection.
Corning Chapter is sponsoring a trip to Winterthur and Longwood Gardens on May 30-31, 2003. Cost is $230 per person and includes admission to Winterthur, Longwood, and a tour of four old mansions in Odessa, DE, plus your lodging (double occupancy), two breakfasts, and two dinners. If you'd like to go on this trip, you may contact Charlotte Schuller at 570-835-4388, but don't delay - the $75 deposit is due March 15th, and final payment is due April 15th. The bus will leave Corning very early on Friday morning; if you are coming from a distance, you may let Charlotte know, and she will try to make arrangements for you to stay with an EGA member in that area.
It was decided at the last Region meeting to hold another Little Stitches in 2004 and move our four-day seminar to 2005. That puts us on schedule for hosting the 2009 National Seminar.
Little Stitches 2004 will be under the direction of the Elmira chapter. They are thinking in terms of October 2004, are currently looking for a site, and are beginning to look for teachers; it is possible they will expand it to two days. If you'd like to submit a proposal, you may send it to:
Marilyn Sbedico
151 West Bennett Circle
Elmira NY 14903
607-733-5709
We also have a chairman for our next four-day Seminar -- Lillian Geer, of Lake Julia Chapter, is the Chairman for Seminar 2005. If you'd like to serve on her committee, you may contact her at:
Lillian Geer
331 Shadylane Drive
New Castle PA 16105
724-654-1442
National Seminar 2009 will be held in Pittsburgh. This is a great opportunity for us to get to a national seminar without having to go terribly far. Of course, National Seminar 2003 is going to be within driving distance too, in Rye NY. How fortunate we are to have such great opportunities!
Ways and Means Wares:
Bookmark $1.50
Letter Opener 1.50
Tape Measure 3.00
Mini Carry All 3.50
Total $9.50
OR Mini Carry All Set (includes all of the above) $9.00
Tote Bags with machine embroidered CNY EGA Logo $20
All items will be available at both Day and Evening Meetings. Checks are acceptable and should be made out to CNY EGA. The bookmark is also a magnifier and has rulings on it. Great for little boys or girls. The tape measure is fiberglass, so one inch won't grow to two! It also has one of those click and reels right back in gizmo's. Great for your purse, or his tackle box. Kid's always love measuring things. The letter opener works very well as a letter opener (Judy Cain keeps coming back for more of these) and they can be used on airplanes to quickly cut your threads.
What about taking the mini carry all, adding a cute mini project, or just a piece of cloth and some thread for doodling and give it as a present to your granddaughter, your niece, or a friend who's shown some interest, along with a promise to spend some time teaching them. This would be a present for both of you!
Lastly remember, profits go into our educationfund so we can have more teachers to get us hooked on more stitching things so we can spend more money supporting our stitching habits!
And you'll probably need another tote bag to carry it all in!
